The Spartans will not be defending their Ferrari Packaging Lowland League Cup crown after they exercised their right to withdraw in order to focus on their SPFL Playoff fixtures against Cove Rangers.
The tournament kicks off on Saturday at Broadwood with Cumbernauld Colts vs Vale of Leithen and six other matches scheduled to take place as the Lowland League’s competitors all look to end the season with silverware.
Dalbeattie Star welcome BSC Glasgow to Islecroft Stadium looking to build on their positive end to the season which has seen them leapfrog Vale of Leithen who are in action at Broadwood against Cumbernauld Colts on Wednesday night.
Lowland League kingmakers University of Stirling play their last home match (draw depending) at The Falkirk Stadium as they take on Civil Service Strollers. Yarrow Park will be the scene as Selkirk under new (old?) manager Ian Fergus entertain Whitehill Welfare and Edinburgh University and Edusport Academy will meet at Peffermill. 3G Arena, Netherdale will be rocking as Gala Fairydean Rovers host relegated Hawick Royal Albert who will be looking to end their season on a high after a disappointing league campaign.
Undoubtedly the pick of the round’s matches will be at K Park where Billy Stark’s East Kilbride welcome John Sludden, who has just signed a new deal, and his East Stirlingshire side. Gretna 2008 meanwhile will receive a pass to the next round due to The Spartans’ withdrawal from the tournament.
