Tranent vs Gala Fairydean Rovers

Tranent got the better of the results against Gala Fairydean Rovers, last season – drawing 0-0 and winning 2-0.

Tranent currently sit in 4th place with 27 points from their 13 games played – made up of eight wins, three draws, and two defeats.

The Big T are on a run of eleven games undefeated. Having won their previous nine, they come into this with back-to-back 2-2 draws – games that were decided in injury time on both occasions. Ben Miller salvaged a draw in the 93rd minute v Berwick Rangers, whilst Caley Braves found their equaliser on the 92nd minute.

Gala Fairydean Rovers currently sit in 8th place with 21 points from their 16 games played – made up of six wins, three draws, and seven defeats.

GFR have won only one of their last six outings, a 5-0 win over Edinburgh University. They have suffered three league defeats and a 5-2 Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Pollok, with their most recent result being a 0-0 draw with Albion Rovers.

Tranent vs Cowdenbeath

Tranent maintained their 100% record under manager, Ian Little with a hard fought 1-0 win against Cowdenbeath on a chilly Wednesday night at Foresters Park.

In the early exchanges, however, Tranent did not look like a team with 6 wins on the bounce, with Cowdenbeath forcing several defensive mistakes and they were unlucky not to break the deadlock.

Tranent’s top scorer Cammy Ross looked to add to his impressive 13 league goals this season with two well worked chances towards the end of the half but was denied first by the post and then by the Cowdenbeath ‘keeper.

Tranent did finally find the back of the net early in the second half, which will have disappointed Calum Elliot and his Cowdenbeath side who had matched Tranent throughout the first half.

The goal came from Scott Gray, who cleverly finished Kieran Somerville’s low cross from the right hand side.

After the goal went in, neither side created much by way of chances, with most of the football being played in the centre of the pitch, much to Tranent’s relief.

Cowdenbeath possession did not amount to any clear chances on goal and Tranent were able to see out the 1-0 win.

Given East Kilbride’s comeback against Linlithgow Rose, the three points will feel especially important to Ian Little and his side – who look to keep pace with the current league leaders.

The Big T have been a free-scoring side so far this season, but what will please Little about this evening’s performance is that his side can grind out wins even when the goals aren’t flowing.

The Blue Brazil were able to contain Tranent effectively for large parts of the game and minimise clear shots on goal so will feel disappointed to be going home empty-handed.

For Tranent, three points are three points and it’s tight wins like these that can make all the difference come the end of the season.

Tranent vs Gretna 2008

Last season, both teams secured home victories – Gretna 2008 winning 2-1, and Tranent securing their share of the points with a 4-0 win.

Tranent find themselves in 6th position – having won four of their seven games, drawing one, and losing two.

The Big T come into this on fine form – with three wins and a draw coming from their last four games, scoring 10 and conceding two.

After seven straights defeats and leaking a mammoth 39 goals, Gretna 2008 got their first points on the board, last weekend – with a dramatic last-minute winner securing a 2-1 win over Civil Service Strollers.

Now that the Anvils are off the foot of the table, a newfound sense of self-belief could help them accumulate more points and steer away from the danger zone.

Tranent vs Broomhill

It was Tranent who came out on top on both occasions, last season – defeating Broomhill 4-0 at home, and 2-1 away.

Tranent have won three of their first four fixtures – losing 2-1 to the only team who have been the victors on every outing, Bo’ness United.

The Big T have goals in them and are the league’s top scorers, at this moment – with comprehensive 6-2 and 5-1 victories coming against Edinburgh Uni and Cumbernauld Colts, as well as their opening day 2-1 win away to East Stirlingshire.

Broomhill have also won three of their four fixtures. Since losing 2-1 on the opening day to East Kilbride, The Broom have defeated both Linlithgow Rose and Caley Braves 2-0, followed by a 4-0 win v Edinburgh Uni.

Broomhill have the joint-best defence, alongside Bo’ness United – only conceding two goals (both on the opening day), and have kept three consecutive clean sheets.

Tranent vs Bo’ness United

Tranent’s inaugural season in the Lowland League saw them defeat Bo’ness United 2-0 at Newtown Park, and draw 1-1 at Foresters.

Both sides have taken maximum points from their opening two games. Tranent won 2-1 away from home against East Stirlingshire, and blew Edinburgh University away with a 6-2 victory at Foresters.

Bo’ness United opened their campaign with a 3-0 win at home against Gala Fairydean Rovers, and came from behind to defeat Berwick Rangers 2-1 away from home.

Having left Tranent to take over as Bo’ness United boss in 2019, Max Christie made a return to the hotseat of The Belters at the end of last season – taking Alassan Jones and Lennon Walker with him. Defender, Shaun Rutherford made the reverse trip, leaving Tranent to join the B.U.s.

An early season fixture that has it all, making it this weekend’s ‘Star Match’.

Tranent vs Edinburgh University

The last time the sides met at Foresters Park, Tranent cruised to an 8-0 win.

Pipped by many to be title contenders, Tranent got their 23/24 campaign underway as they left Falkirk Stadium with three points – thanks to a 2-1 win over East Stirling.

Broque Watson put the Big T ahead on the 32nd minute, with Cammy Ross doubling the lead four minutes later. Shaun Brown pulled one back for the home side, just before half-time.

A big change at East Peffermill saw Sean McAuley come in for ever-present Dorian Ogunro, who departed after eleven years as Head Coach – and city rivals Civil Service Strollers were the visitors on the opening day.

Whilst the students will be disappointed to have scored three goals at home and be on the losing side, they’ll be encouraged to be finding the back of the net – with last season’s goal difference being -96, 31 scored, 127 conceded.
