Dalbeattie Star and East Kilbride go head to head tomorrow in the final of the South Region Challenge Cup.
Both teams have had a very good run in the Lowland League and Star boss Paul McGinley said “This match will be a massive challenge for us as this has been a competition totally dominated by East of Scotland clubs for the past 40 years or so, in its present format and when it was the South Qualifying Cup before that, so history will be created as there will be a new name on the trophy.
“We have had some great games against East Kilbride already this season and they are a team very much like ourselves, they play good football and are very attack minded. The whole club is run the right way, from the Manager, the Coaches, the players and the Committee, very professionally.”
Iain King, Head Coach for newcomers East Kilbride, said “This match will be the final stop on what has been a thrilling journey for East Kilbride FC in our first season as a senior club.
“We set out to become respected in the Scottish Sun Lowland League and establish ourselves alongside clubs steeped in history like our rivals Dalbeattie Star who were born 109 years ago.
“I feel we more than achieved that and to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup and the Final of the flagship 40-team SFA Challenge Cup saw us exceed our own expectations if I am honest.”
Both teams go into the final refreshed, and with their full squad available.
All the action kicks of at 3:00pm at Palmerston Park, Dumfries.
Entry is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
