Whitehill got off to the perfect start with Wayne McIntosh scoring after only four minutes after Gala keeper John Dodds failed to catch an awkward ball and Aaron Somerville raced to collect it and teed up Wayne McIntosh to score into an empty net from 15 yards out.
The visitors rallied and after a spell of pressure Daryl Devlin drilled a shot low and hard into the bottom corner giving Caesar Hurst no chance in goal.
Just after the half hour mark Gala took the lead from the penalty spot. Willie Kidd appeared to foul Jamie Gibson in the box, Gibson dusted himself down and made no mistake from 12 yards.
On 38 minutes Whitehill almost equalised when Andrew Kidd played McIntosh clean through on goal but Dodds made a good save from his shot.
Things got worse for the home side moments after the restart when John Hall upended Callum Jardine in the penalty area and Gibson scored his second spot kick of the afternoon to make it 3-1 to Gala.
With 5 minutes remaining Andrew Swinney made good progress down the right and Wayne Sproule volleyed his cross in into the net.
East Kilbride secured the second spot in the league with a 3-1 win over Edinburgh University.
Kilby took the lead in the opening minutes before the students leveled.
Despite being down to ten men Kilby went on and won comfortably.
Preston made the trip to the Dumfries to face Dalbeattie.
