City chairman relishing chance to play is SPFL 2

Edinburgh City chairman Jim Lumsden claims his club is excited by the possibility of promotion to the SPFL.

Lumsden said “We’ve got a shot at being promoted to the SPFL and that’s what the pyramid system was brought in for, and I think Scottish football’s needed something like this.

“They’ve got the same system in England but it took years to fine-tune, so it’s going to take a while in Scotland as well.

“I think everyone is just expecting it to fall into place in the first season, which might be a bit unrealistic.

“But we’re looking forward to it.

“We knew what the Lowland League was about when we joined, so we knew we might be in this position.

“We have tried to do everything we could to win the league and we’ll continue trying to do everything we can to win games of football.

“I’ve really enjoyed the Lowland League, it’s been a really good league to play in, and if we’re still in it next season I’ll look forward to the season.

“But the prospect of playing in the SPFL is something to look forward to, it really is.

“We played alongside Annan Athletic for a number of years in the East of Scotland league and they’ve shown what can be done by moving up.

“They’ve been a great success in the SPFL and we would hope to emulate that. That would be our target.”

The first play offs will take place later this month.
